Aki Hoshihara is a Japanese artist based in Los Angeles with a background in traditional Japanese calligraphy.
“I mix black sumi-ink and chromatic watercolors to express the beauty, the strength, and the energy flow of humans as nature in an abstract method. The work shown in this post was inspired by the female and male energy of one single person. As everyone has two polarities, it expresses how the two different elements combine as one united piece in a person. For the project at Curtidos, I will explore more about energy of humans as beautiful spiritual beings, and as I talk and see through them, I’d like to find and shine the beauty of the person which might be hidden. I plan to choose different color of paper based on what I feel from the persons and will plan drawing images with sumi-ink and watercolor.”
